There are a lot of good books on leadership - this can easily be counted among the best. BG York has an ability to relate leadership principles and examples through an easy-to-read and interesting writing style. Major General York has certainly hit several key elements for a leader. I have referenced this book several times as I lead a fraternity; participate in group projects, and as I aspire to be an Army Officer. His stories and examples are helpful in connecting the theory to the practical. This book has been helpful as I have needed to teach and encourage people towards leadership, humility, teamwork, and integrity. This book combines what a strong leader does without neglecting who the leader is. I have appreciated General York's insight, experience, and wisdom that he shares in this book. I wholeheartedly recommend this for anyone whether young or old who aspires to be a more effective leader.
As a retired Army Psychiatrist I saw units thrive under good leadership and fall apart under poor leadership. This book clearly illustrates principles and gives great examples of leadership. Since retiring I have seen that the principles that work in the Military are also very true in corporate America. This book should be required reading at not only places like West Point and Command and General Staff but also in MBA programs and by executives in business and nonprofits.
Quick, concise and extremely relevant. A must read for all junior and senior leaders alike.
I credit Dan York with the ability to distill key nuggets of knowledge into a clear method to best understand and apply key leadership principles. A perfect addition to the library of any leader; from the junior military non-commssioned officer to the most senior business official in corporate America.
The concepts of a strong team and partnerships are key elements that most leaders often overlook. Dan brings these key elements to the forefront and establishes them as crucial to the success of not only the leader them self, but to the organization they are charged with.
Strongly recommend this be required reading for all supervisors, managers, and junior military leaders; whether they are cadets/officer candidates, company grade officers, or junior non-commissioned officers. By applying the concepts of this book, any leader will reach new heights of success and new leaders will have a strong foundation to build on.
It so happens that I personally know Dan York. He IS the leader that he describes in this manual. I had the honor of watching him from his time as a Major. He was awesome then--and even better now.
This is the finest work on leadership I have read. Gen. York is a West Point man and an outstanding citizen. He is in touch with what is required to lead and it isn't always "kick butt and take names." It must be a pleasure to serve in his command but one must also know he has expectations which must be met. It is refreshing to see that a man of his standing isn't afraid to give credit to the greatest leader of them all. His Lord!

The organization's website states their goal as equipping leaders to become successful spiritually, physically, emotionally, and socially. I liked the fact I knew where my money was going when I purchased this book (digital and hard copy), since all the proceeds go to support the leadership development work of Long Eternal Line/First Cause.
